“ETHNO-POLITICAL CONFLICTS IN THE CAUCASUS AND THE MIDDLE EAST” INTERNATIONAL SCIENTIFIC-PRACTICAL CONFERENCE

The scientific cooperation between the North Caucasian Federal University of the Russian Federation (NCFU) and the NAS RA Institute of History continues. On October 21-22, the international scientific conference “Ethno-political conflicts in the Caucasus and the Middle East” was held at the North Caucasian Federal University of the Russian Federation (Stavropol). This time, the NAS RA Institute of History was on the list of organizers of the conference within the framework of cooperation with the NCFU.

Professor Igor Kryuchkov, Head of the Department of World History, Political Science and International Relations of the university, made a welcoming speech. At the plenary session, Ashot Melkonyan – Director of the NAS RA Institute of History presented “The demographic policy of the Ottoman Empire in Western Armenia”, Prof. Vahan Melikyan – the report “The problem of the alternative of power in Transcaucasia after the Bolshevik coup”. Cd. of Hist. Sci. Hasmik Amirjanyan remotely presented the report (“The crisis of the Persian Empire and the awakening of the liberation movements of the Armenians under Persian rule at the end of the 18th century”). Representatives of various scientific and educational institutions of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Armenia participated in the conference. On October 22, Acad. Melkonyan had a meeting with representatives of the Armenian community of Stavropol.
