In 1944 the department of History was divided into two parts (Ancient and Middle Ages). From 1947 there was the department of History of Soviet Socialist Republic of Armenia.
In 1959 was founded the department of History of the USSR and the States of People Democracy. In 1960 in the Institute of Literature of NAS RA was opened the department of History of Armenian Public Mind and Periodicals which in 1965 was moved to the Institute of History. In 1966 the department of Ancient and Middle Ages was extended which was also divided into two parts. In 1977 was founded the department of Armenian-Russian Historical Relations. From 2002 the Institute of History is presented with a new structure. Now there are 7 scientific departments, computer room and the Center of Mesrop Arch. Ashjyan.
