From 4 to 7 June, the Southern Scientific Centre of the Russian Academy of Sciences (Rostov-on-Don) hosted a scholarly conference entitled “The Great Patriotic War in the History and Memory of the Peoples of Southern Russia: Events, Participants, Symbols.” The event brought together 200 scholars from 30 federal subjects of the Russian Federation and 10 foreign countries.
At the plenary session, the Director of the Institute of History of the NAS RA, Academician Ashot Melkonyan, delivered a presentation entitled “Armenian National Divisions in the Great Patriotic War: From the Caucasus Mountains to Berlin.”
Professor Melkonyan also held a meeting with students and academic staff of the Southern Federal University.
The Armenian delegation visited the Museum of Russian-Armenian Friendship, the Armenian churches of Surb Khach (Holy Cross) and Surb Karapet (St. Karapet), as well as the Armenian village of Chaldir.
